We believe that worship at the Vineyard Church of Houston is an organic extension of the Vineyard church movement (www.vineyardusa.org) which has a unique voice and quality in the church's worship experience. Our songs, words and expressions in worship are different because they are infused with Vineyard core values: intimacy, accessibility and authenticity. Vineyard music is not written from within a vacuum; it comes from the trenches of local Vineyard church ministry as they seek to experience and engage the Kingdom of God in our local communities.
We believe that, as our founder John Wimber said, worship leaders should be ministers first and musicians second. This is a vital emphasis for us. We make it our aim to instill this servant's heart deep into our worship community. Our efforts are centered in the cultivation and empowerment of the core value of worship or more simply put "to help our church experience God."
We believe that worship is more than just singing songs. It is where we engage God - talk to him, love him, and receive from him. Through worship, we can experience God’s touch to “heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners and give a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair” (Isaiah 61).
We believe that the corporate expression of worship is based not solely around music, but in all areas of visual arts and media. We have a church community of artists that meet, collaborate, and support each other. See Arts Guild for more information.
We believe that we need to press into cultural and ethnic diversity through worship. We want our worship to build bridges across our community. One of the unique things we do at the Vineyard Church of Houston is sing worship songs in both English and Spanish.
